About Marlec

What We Offer

Part of our history

For over four decades, Marlec has been at the forefront of the renewable energy industry. Established in 1978, we are proud to be the UK’s longest-standing manufacturer of wind and solar power systems.

Our journey began when founder John Fawkes identified the potential of wind energy at a time when the sector was still largely unexplored. This early vision led to the development of the Rutland windcharger range, which has since become a trusted benchmark in the marine and off-grid markets, with more than 120,000 units sold worldwide.

Constant improvement

As the industry evolved, so did we. In 1985, Marlec expanded into solar photovoltaic technology, strengthening our position in off-grid energy solutions.

This commitment to innovation was recognised in 1989 with the Queen’s Award for Outstanding Export Achievement.

Today, our portfolio supports a wide range of applications, including highways, traffic signage, and remote infrastructure. From the widely adopted Solar iBoost for energy efficiency, to the VEVA EV charger and the latest VertX 360 vertical wind turbine, our solutions are designed to meet modern energy demands across urban and remote environments.

Awards and recognitions

Marlec is a proud member of the British Marine and the British Sign & Graphics Association.

Our work has been recognised consistently, including multiple Sustainability Awards at the Northamptonshire SME Business Awards from 2022 to 2025, and the National Planet Saver Green Business of the Year Award at the Chamber Business Awards.

Our strength lies in our engineering expertise. Every product is developed through extensive in-house research, testing, and refinement. The complexity of our systems and the precision of our manufacturing process ensure performance that cannot be easily replicated. Our engineers invest significant time in product development to deliver reliable, long-term energy solutions.

Total focus to your projects

Today, we focus on delivering bespoke off-grid systems tailored to the needs of councils, highways authorities, and infrastructure providers across the UK and Europe.

Whether supporting safer roads, powering remote signage, or helping reduce operational costs, our technology is built to deliver dependable results where it matters most.
